Notes:

Although the headstone states Elizabeth Manners was a nurse in hospital, no confirmation of this can be found but over the years her occupation was described as Housekeeper domestic,


Nurse domestic and Retired Hospital Nurse.  Elizabeth never married.


Elizabeth was baptised on 1st February 1829 at St Peters Church, Leeds (Leeds Minster).  Her parents were Robert and Mary Manners, a Shoe maker of Lady Lane, Leeds.  She had two sisters,  and two brothers and lived at 16 Livingston Terrace, Leeds.


She died on 22 January 1900, age 70.

Robert Botterill Manners d 1927, 62, Druggist Shop Keeper (b. 1865) (son of William Botterill Manners)  married Jane Ann Askey, 1887.


All family buried in Beckett St, before 1849 are buried in guinea graves, after that date buried in family grave.


In 1841 Elizabeth was living at Newsome Yard, Kirkgate. With parents and siblings:-


Ann, 20 yrs, Botterill, 15yrs, Elizabeth was 10 yrs, Hannah 9yrs.


1851 Census living with parents in Alan St, Leeds.  Father born Darlington, mother born Selby, Elizabeth born Leeds.


1871 Census living with Edmund Wilson, Solicitor Registrar County Court at Goole.  She was Housekeeper domestic.


1881 Census living with Owen family, Jewellers & Pawnbrokers at 4 Briggate, Leeds, she was a Nurse Domestic, unmarried, 51 yrs, born Leeds


1891 Census – Elizabeth living alone at 16 Livingstone Terrace, Central Leeds, Retired Hospital Nurse. 62 yrs.


Her brother William Botterill Manners, died 1868, 42 yrs, rent collector, buried in guinea grave 2225.  He had married Susannah Laycock in 1850, living Cookson Street, Leeds.  She died 28 August 1860, 37 years, (guinea grave 3052).


He then married Elizabeth Cummins on 28 November 1860, she died 1892, 53 yrs, having had at least 5 children:-


Botterill Manners, born 1867, 176 Accommodation Road (guinea grave 5182) died January 1867, 5 months old


William St Luke Manners, 12 Elam St, died 1863 16 months (guinea grave 1993)


Agnes, born and died 1863 (grave no 6558)


Cecilia born and died 1868 (grave no 1668)


Robert, married Jane Ann, he died age 62 years, Jane Ann died at 44 years (both grave no 18810)


So in 8 years his wife Elizabeth (nee Cummings) had lost 4 children and her husband.  One child, Robert Bottrill, survived.  Elizabeth died 1892 leaving £197.17s in her Will (see below).
